The Mitten

Here is a link to a wonderful book we shared in the classroom which led to lots of inquiry.
The Mitten
We measured mittens with cubes, how long, how tall, how many fit inside.
We made the characters into puppets to retell the story.
We drew the character in a mitten.
We learned about symmetry by painting a mitten and folding the paper to make the match.
In these photos below, we put mittens on our hands and painted, a new sensory experience.

"I made teal. I got white, blue and yellow and mixed it up"

Teacher- "are your hands dirty inside the mitten?"  A- "yes"
Teacher- "how do you know?" A -"because my hand is wet!"

This friend was very quiet during her experiment of mixing colours. She was very focused and concentrating. You can see that she was making new colours by mixing a few different colours.

Finger vs. mitt...do they feel different?
"It feels funny, it feels different"

"I used every colour to make a rainbow"

"Mrs. Long! Look what we made! A big colour."

Looks like we have found a new interest, colour mixing. I wonder what we can do next?
