Crayons

The crayon factory is in full motion! The children really got in to this task!
(Although the pictures are in reverse order of the steps, you can see how we started and how we enjoyed the end product. Posting pictures was not agreeing with me.)

Using our heart shaped, multi coloured crayons

"They are smooth"
The girls are showing off their heart crayons.
This was so much fun, we made 2 batches. The kids did great with fine motor skills pealing all those crayons.

"I think they will get warm in the oven and make new colours"
We talked about reusing and recycling old broken crayon pieces.
They grouped like colours into each heart. Some children wanted to make a mixture of colours. We called it a "mishmosh"!

"We're doing a science esperient" (I love the vocabulary!)

The children made predictions. They wondered why we were pealing crayons. They asked why we were putting the crayons in a muffin tin. They thought about why the oven was on.
"If we add water, we are making crayon muffins"
They thought about how the liquid wax would make a crayon. "They will freeze on the counter"
