The children discovered texture doing leaf rubbings
They used many colours, just like the leaves outside
They observed that some leaves had more than one colour
And using long paper, they discovered they could wear their creations! Introducing Queen of the Leaves!

Apple Prints

Many of our children are discussing their family outings to the Apple Orchard. We brought those experiences into our classroom. We made a graph to see what colour of apples was our favorite. We cut apples to see the shape within and painted with them. Many friends chose to make patterns. We then brought our apple seeds to our science area, to the Wonder Table to look at the seeds a little more closely.

Scientific Discovery

During a small group exploration, our friends discovered some new things about the world around them!
Using different kinds of resources, these girls drew pictures of pine trees from books, and pine cones that they found outside, and Apple seeds that we have in a specimen jar.

Using our observation glasses and magnifying glasses, they drew pictures of the leaves that they looked at. They searched for bugs on the leaves also.
They noticed that leaves where different colours, and why are they different colours. We were discussing how trees look in the different seasons.
A smart idea! Trace the leaves. "They are crunchy, they break."
More children have come and added to the collage! Pumpkins! And "coconuts grow on trees" and so coconuts were drawn. "Bananas grow on trees." And so bananas were drawn.
"The leaves have lines"
"I'm looking close."

From all of this discovery, we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and sang apples and bananas.
